Emile was born out of concepts of place and community.
In search of further inspiration, screenwriter Mattheo Sawyer turned to Michel Foucault’s poignant question:
“Is it really surprising that prisons resemble factories, schools, barracks, hospitals, which all resemble prisons?"
These ideas fueled and framed the praxis of Bressonian style which underlies the didactic portrayals of Emile. Shot with a skeleton crew of writer/co-director Mattheo Discher Sawyer, co-director/cinematographer, Patrick Domingo, and, set builder/grip, Samuel Domingo, Emile begs the question:
What is home when we lose all that we know?
